Killzone 2
Killzone 2 has had gaming enthusiasts salivating at its superb graphics and sound effects, but there's much more to this fantastic game. Killzone multiplayer, "warzone", will dazzle you, its "reality" is astounding and the game is presented almost entirely from a first person perspective. Killzone 2 follows Killzone and Killzone: Liberation, and takes place on the planet Helghan, the home of the Helghast, who invaded the ISA colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy's home world of Helghan and it's their goal to capture the leader, Emperor Scolar Visari, and take out the Helghast threat.

An absolutely awesome game. Single player campaign is immense and the online MP just keeps getting better!
The graphics are SOOO good and the sound just blows you away. Make sure you have your surround speakers on and loud!
But more than all of the above it's the attention to detail in this game that really caught my eye. You'll see little things happen and you won't believe it, try to make the same thing happen and it won't, it just keeps changing everytime depending on a multitude of factors!
In conclusion, this game rocks and if you own a PS3 then you HAVE to buy this! Even if you don't own a PS3 you should get it for this game, you have no excuse now with the slim on sale too! -

Killzone2 is a fantastic shooter, no question about it. It does nearly everything fantastically. The shooting mechanics are great, the physics are astounding and the graphics breathtaking.
What Killzone2 brings new to the table is an extremely refined first person cover system. It is essentially a normal cover system, just presented to you in the first person perspective. It works extremely well and does help you immerse yourself in the experience, but it has been removed from the multiplayer section of the game. The story on the other hand, is nothing special, a typical space marine journey where you must kill the supposed "evil empire". It isn't bad, it just majorly lacks originality and the plot twist is no real surprise. I am not too bothered about the poor story because it doesn't really hamper the games future potential as it can be fixed easily. What really makes the title worth buying is the action sequences, graphics, sound and multiplayer.
From start to finish Killzone2 is an adrenaline fuelled roller coaster ride which grabs you round the neck and doesn't let go till the credits roll. There are some fantastic scenes in Killzone2, and without giving anything away, my favourite scenes have got to be when in control of an exoskeleton suit, a ship turret and when assaulting the palace at the end. Each of these scenes are great fun and really show how polished Killzone's gameplay is and what your HD television can really do. The first few levels are slightly repetitive but they are still a complete blast to play through.
The E3 2005 trailer really set the bar high for Killzone2's graphics, and I have to say that I personally believe that they have surpassed all expectations in this field. The amount of special effects going on in this game really blew me away right from the beginning of the very first mission. Dust particles, blood splatters, incredible lighting, all of this adds up to create a true blockbuster experience. Killzone2 is the first Playstation3 exclusive to really show everyone what the system can do.
On to probably the most important part of any modern FPS. Multiplayer. Killzone2's multiplayer is nothing short of spectacular, and the only part of the game which shows real originality. Killzone2 offers 8 multiplayer maps, each supporting 32 players and 5 game modes.
Body count - your standard team deathmatch.
Assassination - one player is designated the target, then one team must defend the player while the other team must try and kill him/her.
Search and Retrieve - a capture the flag type game mode.
Capture and Hold - control points around the map to help your team score points.
Search and Destroy - One team must try and plant a bomb at a target while the other must defend it.
You can even practise all of the maps and game modes in skirmish, an offline multiplayer arena full of bots. This can help you understand how the multiplayer feels without getting destroyed against real people straight away.
The originality of the multiplayer comes in the way that Killzone offers these game modes. You can play each one individually or you can play them in the recommended mode called warzone. Warzone is essentially all of these game modes available in one match, for example you could be playing body count and then once that game is complete the highest scoring person could be selected as the target in assassination, all happening without returning to a lobby. This continues until all game modes have been completed and the team who won the most rounds wins overall. This really keeps the online experience of Killzone flowing, and should be incorporated into all upcoming online games available as it is so simple yet so fantastic at keeping the pace of the game up. Ranking up online in Killzone is the normal affair. Earn points by killing opponents and completing mission objectives, it shouldn't take you too long to reach the top rank. Each rank you go up will unlock a new badge, or weapon of some sort, which help you in the online battlefield. Using these abilities effectively will then unlock even more abilities, for example, reviving 5 people in 1 round eight times then gives you the health pack ability. The amount and variety of these challenges helps to keep the game fresh, long after reaching the top rank. The online arena is where Killzone really shines and is worth the £40 RRP alone.
Overall Killzone2 is an FPS lacking originality, yet providing the most polished gameplay mechanics and most beautiful graphics available in a video game. Does Killzone2 live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but I award Killzone2 an impressive 9.4 / 10. -

So, I got my hands on Killzone 2, I played the beta version of this game and the online server was rubbish, it didn't even work and I always got an error. But after playing the retail version I can officially say the online server has been fixed!
**PLOT**
Now on to the review...
The game is based on the original story and this is the 3rd edition, but instead of the fight being in vekta it's now in the helghast homeland Helgan.
Your player is Sev, but on your side you have Rico and your Commander General is Templar, but the one thing I do not get is that the leader of Helghast is still alive even though you kill him in the last level of Killzone 1.
**GAMEPLAY**
STORY: You start descending into the Helghan atmosphere where you see missiles flying past you, you get shot down and off you go exploring the planet fighting your way through to secure victory. At this point I can say that you won't get past the first level without dying, even on easy mode you still won't.
MULTIPLAYER: One essential thing that is missing is offline play. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, but still I wanted this feature. When you play online you need to rank-up in order to become a medic, engineer, etc. and also you need to earn ribbons to unlock further things. I can't say anything about medics or engineers because I like to be the assault class, but anyway it's great! Also, I need to mention that as you kill someone, you will not kill them fully but mortally wound them - finishing them off is the best bit (Shot to the head).
**CONTROLS**
People are complaining about the controls not being like COD but people really need to realise that this is KILLZONE 2 not COD, so anyway, if people are going to have a problem they just need to change it to alternate 2...
The way you move your gun makes it feel like the gun is heavy, people are complaining about this but this is what realism is! Guerrilla aren't willing to do anything like this so it really doesn't matter , in Real life you have to use tactics, you won't win by running around mental and shooting like a maniac killing everyone. In Killzone 2, this is not the case, it will take about 3 bullets from an assault rifle to mortally wound someone and finishing them off is what will kill them...
**GRAPHICS**
This is the wow factor, there isn't really any words to explain any of it - the atmosphere is just detailed and not a repeat...
**WEAPONS**
You have all the classics but there is no secondary fire (grenade launcher, Shotgun) but the guns details are a lot better so is the sound of the fire.
These are some of the weapons M82-G + StA-52 LAR
**OVERALL**
Killzone 2 has lived up to its hype and kept it up! This game is a must have for all FPS Fans and this game won't be going cheap for quite some months....
My rating is 9/10
