I'm going to give a different perspective on this game compared to all the other countless reviews that have given this a AAA GOTY status. Yes, the game is brilliant, well thought out and an amazing experience. However there is a flaw. It's TOO GOOD that it's over before you even realise it.
When I started playing the game I was taken aback by the opening few minutes and knew this was going to be something really special. It was, but it kept me glued to the game for way too long that I did not put it down until I had completed it. I chose to ignore the side requests as much as possible and focused on the main story and before I knew it was all over. The Riddler trophies and riddles kept me playing and further enjoying the atmospheric world, but I was disappointed that the guts of the game were done. The side missions with the other villains (staying spoiler free) were great and in my opinion helped to pad out the short campaign but I think that Rocksteady missed a trick here. For a single player campaign, the game should have been much longer than it was. A lot of gamers are already trading this game in for the next big release, which is a shame because this is a game that should remain in a gamers collection. There will inevitably be a third outing from Rocksteady set in Gotham City and probably twice the size of Arkham City, but the void that needs to be filled until it is released will be difficult to fill. I'm not interested in challenge maps that much, but it's the only thing that will keep the moment alive in this incredible setting. I hope that Rockstready release some meaty additional campaign as DLC (They may surprise us) like Rockstar did with the Undead Nightmare pack for Red Dead Redemption. Else, this game will forever be traded and traded again between gamers.
In summary, I will end by saying that Arkham City exceeded my expectations and was an immense game, but for me it was over way too quickly and I suspect it was the same for a lot of other gamers. I will pack it away and replay again in 6 months, just to experience the magic of the single player campaign again, if only for another short time.
