If, like me, you are a die-hard fan of the Japanese manga and anime, Bleach, originally created just over a decade ago by the legendary Tite Kubo, then there is a very, very good chance that Bleach: Soul Resurrección is going to be your Game of the Month, maybe even Game of the Year.

Released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 this month, after a Japanese release last summer (oh, how I have been waiting for its UK release!), Soul Resurrección allows you to choose from a wide variety of your favourite characters that you'll have no doubt become well accustomed to over the course of the past eleven years.

Getting the chance to inhabit Ichigo in his many manifestations, as well as Rukia, Ishida, Yoruichi, Hitsugaya, and many, many more is like a real dream come true for me. Moving around as these characters and acting out all their super-human abilities is tremendous amounts of fun!

Loosely based on one of the middle arcs from the anime and manga, Soul Resurrección enters you into a world in which the Shinigami (Soul Reapers) are at war with Aizen and his Arrancar army, and the Spanish-language inflection (as evidenced in the title) that is present in the anime and manga is delightfully pleasant here as well, sitting comfortably beside the Japanese names of the characters. (The gameplay itself is of course all in English, lest you be worried about that.)

The graphics are expectedly a joy to behold, adding an interesting and vivid third dimension to what I'm used to reading and seeing, and it is a superb experience to live within that new dimension. My personal preference as a character is (naturally) Ichigo, and I have had a brilliant time increasing him through the levels of the game, enjoying his abilities getting better and better themselves as I do so.

All of the special powers we all know and love about Bleach - from Ichigo's unparalleled swordplay (with his Getsuga Tensho ability) to the Shunpo ('lightning-step') that allows you to travel vast distances in an instant - are at play here, and a delight to take full control of.

The different difficulty settings ensure that once the story mode of the game is completed (on easy, if you so wish), there is plenty still left to do by making things more challenging, as well as other modes (like the Mission Mode) in which to test and hone your skills, which makes for enough gameplay hours to make it more than worth your money. My only wish is that it could have had a multiplayer mode, because that would have made it perfect. But hopefully next time we can look forward to that in a future game.
