When I bought the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition last month for the low price of £17, I was expecting to play a short and boring game considering the price it was worth. Having never really heard of or played any of the game before I was only really buying it as I had the money lying around. Let me just say how much of a mistake my initial perceptions were! This game has quickly become one of my favourite and I haven't even managed to finish it yet despite clocking in a massive 30hrs so far!

Firstly, let me say how great the story for this game is. Created by Bioware, we know to expect a fantastic narrative, with great characters and set plot points. However, even by Bioware standards, this one really does stand out as one of the best. This is partly due to the character creation mechanics at the beginning of the game which allow you to create a unique character from numerous options available. Right from the off, your choices in the character creation section inspires a prologue chapter of the game about the characters own backstory! After the prologue has ended, all characters are invited to join an elite group known as the Grey Wardens who are tasked with defending the region from the threat of the Blight, which takes place every couple of hundred years. You must now build up a collection of companions to take on the Blight. From this moment onwards, the game is literally your oyster. You can make every decision in the game your own, no matter how trivial. This means that the player really feels a part of the world of Dragon Age as well as helping to shape it. Without spoiling anything, I can safely say that this is definitely one epic story that you will want to see right to the end!

Moving on to the gameplay, it is a mixture between a classic top-down perspective RPG and a more common action game found on the Xbox 360 platform. Battles are launched straight in from the normal exploration view, no loading or pauses. Exploration is a forefront of the game; loot finding, quest completing and the like. Battles are frantic, yet still manageable. Highlighting enemies and pressing A on them will launch the controlled character into a basic attack. Pressing the left trigger will pause the action and bring up a command interface, from which you can queue up a number of commands for you and your party members. While you do not directly attack enemies, the ability to command everyone on the battlefield gives you a sense of 'flow' of combat that appeals to you once you get used to it. Not only this, but you can also customise the equipment and abilities of every party member. Therefore, every time you play through this game, the outcome and variety found each time can be completely different!

Examining the graphics and sound I would say that this is the weakest section of the game as a whole. While the sound effects and voice work is incredibly good, the graphics are a little dated now, especially when viewing the character models. While this does detract from the immersion aspect somewhat, the lack of cutting-edge graphics is more than made up for in engaging gameplay and lengthy storyline.

Since the length of the game is well into 60hrs, the fact that there are so many ways to play this game it encourages you to play this game from beginning to end over and over again. Not only this, but the Ultimate Edition includes every piece of DLC (downloadable content) that was created for the game. Simply put, this is a ridiculous amount of game for the small price of £17. Literally, this is the best value for money in any game I have ever come across. Included in this purchase is Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age Origins Awakening Expansion Pack, extra content packs including: The Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, Feastday Gifts, The Darkspawn Chronicles, Feastday Pranks, Leliana's Song, the Golem's Amgarrak, and Witch Hunt. Seriously incredible amount of content for such a small price!

Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition is definitely one of the best offers to be found on this website, and I would thoroughly recommend it as a purchase for anyone that wants a long and enjoyable game experience!
